Ready Your Home for Spring Storms

March 2017

While it's true that it’s difficult to predict Mother Nature, you can take steps ahead of time to prepare your home for spring storms, minimize property damage and keep your family safe.

Prior to the onset of severe weather, begin preparing and/or implementing the following precautionary measures:

  • Stock an emergency kit with water, non-perishable food, a first-aid kit, flashlights and extra batteries, and a battery-operated radio in case of a storm-related power outage
  • Use surge protectors for electronic equipment in your home such as computers, televisions and appliances
  • Check the condition of your roof and make any needed repairs to minimize damage in a storm.
  • Clean gutters and downspouts so water will be diverted away from your home.
  • Call our office at 270.527.8621 to ensure that your policies provide adequate coverage in the event your property is damaged by upcoming storms.

If a storm is imminent, stay up to date on the latest weather conditions for your area and take the below precautions immediately:

  • Use your TV, radio, or internet to stay informed of the changing weather conditions.
  • Know the difference between a storm watch and the more serious storm warnings issued by the National Weather Service.
  • Secure or bring in any outdoor furniture, grills, trash cans, etc. that could be blown around in the event of high winds.
  • Unplug any expensive electronic equipment to protect against a power surge.
  • Set your refrigerator and freezer to the coldest setting. In the event of a power outage, food will be colder and last longer.

At Peel & Holland we are committed to our clients no matter the hour or weather conditions. Should you incur property damage, we can be reached 24/7 at 800.599.8621 to assist you with a claim.
